French Louis XIII style bleached coffer or trunk handcrafted of old growth white oak in Normandy, having hand forged iron straps and three panels of raised diamante point decoration to the front and panels on each side, circa 1890s. Raised on bun feet. Coffers and trunks were used to keep all sorts of treasures under lock and key while still functioning as seats, tables, and even beds for children or very small adults. They were the main item of furniture in early French households and it was fairly common to have a coffer in every room.
