When I picked this charming Victorian floral painting, I thought it was done on embossed paper, like so many of the early Victorian valentines and holy cards I collect and sell. Upon closer inspection I realized that the embellishments above and below the painting that look like machine embossing are actually hand cut! Something like a cross between 18th century hand cut canivetes and Victorian pinprick work, she must have used a minuscule, very sharp knife to make the tiny cuts that make up this raised pattern. Presented as found in a Victorian mat and wooden frame, about 13.5” tall.
