🖌 Subject & Medium
This outstanding oil on canvas by French artist Guillaume Urban Régamey (c. 1860) captures the thrill and tension of a high-speed fox hunt — a masterwork for collectors of fine art, hunting scenes, or equestrian imagery.
🎭 Composition & Technique
The scene is charged with motion: three determined French huntsmen, mounted on galloping horses, surge forward across the countryside, leading a lively pack of scent hounds in pursuit of a fleeing fox.
At the forefront, the lead rider lifts a white handkerchief high, spurring his dark bay horse forward. Beside him, a huntsman in a vivid red jacket with a French horn strapped to his back charges alongside, while a third rider in formal black and a top hat commands a striking white stallion.
Régamey’s earthy greens and browns blend seamlessly with vibrant pops of red and the cool, dramatic blue-gray sky. His bold, lively brushstrokes capture the tension in the animals’ bodies, the stir of the ground, and the restless energy of the chase.
