November 14, 1969, two bolts of lightning strike Apollo 12's command module just 32 seconds after liftoff, killing the spacecraft's electrical system.  Three brave Americans: Pete Conrad, Dick Gordon, and Alan Bean, were barreling into space atop 363 feet of rocket fuel, oxidizer, and electronics, 13 tons of fuel burning per second, and now they had a dead Command Module.  "I don't know what happened here, we had everything in the world drop out," said Conrad.

Just seconds from Commander Conrad calling an abort, 26 year-old EECOM Flight Controller, John Aaron, remembered a simulated accident from training months before.
"Try SCE to Aux," said Aaron. 

"FCE to Auxiliary?  What the hell is that?" said Conrad

"SCE, SCE to Auxiliary," replied CAPCOM Jerry Carr.

Out of the 300 switches and circuit breakers in Apollo 12's Command Module "Yankee Clipper," Lunar Module Pilot, Alan Bean remembered where it was.  He threw the switch, instruments came back online, and they were able to regain power, saving Apollo 12.
