Jackie Gorring creates from curiosity. Her work, moving between printmaking and sculpture, is inspired by the places she has been, people she has met, flora and fauna, and the comings and goings of her neighbours. Text appears, gleaned from overhead conversations or road signs. BE OH MOTHER is a cacophony of these observations. A figure walks through a blizzard of liquorice allsorts, the text ‘mother oh’ cleverly arranged beside her – where is she going?

BE OH MOTHER forms part of ‘Footprints’, a suite of prints by sixteen Central Victorian artists that coincided with the international printmaking conference IMPACT 7 2011: Intersections & Counterpoints’. Exploring themes of sustainability, reconstitution and recycling, ‘Footprints’ celebrated the Central Victorian landscape, experimental printmaking and the importance of conservation.

Gorring celebrates recycled materials, finding new life in what might otherwise be discarded. For collectors of contemporary art and experimental prints, BE OH MOTHER is a treat.
