Charles Blackman's 'The Painters Studio' is a vision from inside the artists mind. Blackman pictures himself painting, beret atop his head and a cat at his heels.

Cats wander throughout Charles Blackman's work. Sometimes they are caught in the garden, on a tin roof or silhouetted against the night sky enigmatic, noble and watchful. Art historians have speculated that this cat is reflective of Blackmans penchant for solitude and experience of loneliness.
