Rosalind Atkins specialises in intricate woodblocks. Indeed, when eyeing ‘Untitled (The Rescuer)’ it is hard to believe the subject’s plumage was carved into wood. Picturing a swallow saving her young, the work is intense and poetic, grounded by Atkin’s mastery over her medium.

Atkins is an esteemed artist. Her work is represented in the collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the National Gallery of Victoria, among others. Dramatic, poignant and exquisitely rendered, ‘Untitled (The Rescuer)’ is a visual parable – a reminder of the precariousness of life, how it hangs on a string or the slice of an etching knife.
