Jackie Gorring creates from curiosity. Her work, moving between printmaking and sculpture, is inspired by the places she has been, people she has met, flora and fauna, and the media she engages with. Text appears, gleaned from overhead conversations, her subject matter or the references she draws upon. Gorring’s work contains a fervent energy, speaking to the way she sees the world around her.
Gorring’s 2025 relief print, “Daniel and the all ords,” features an image of the ABC’s Daniel Ziffer, a familiar face to any who watch his finance reports. Pictured with a sly wink and smirk, Gorring infuses her characteristic sense of humour into her focus on this television reporter. Juxtaposed against a background dense with abstract patterns, this piece is energetic and fuelled by riotous patterns.
Gorring’s work spans a lifetime of practice, reflecting her sense of humour and vibrant outlook on life. She has featured in over 80 exhibitions over the course of her career. Gorring’s works are held in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, the Canberra Museum and Art Gallery and the Print Council of Australia.
For lovers of contemporary Australian printmaking, Gorring’s “Daniel and the all ords” is an exciting find.
