Provenanced from Charles Blackmans personal collection, this original drawing is a rare glimpse into the artists archive. It is early, dated circa 1958, and pictures a mythological scene – two mortal beings try to evade an angels power. One is caught, while the other recoils in shock.
Blackman would return to angels throughout his career. They are rarely straightforward characters, sometimes appearing playful, other times in pursuit of humans, threatening to take them into a nether-realm.
Angels has never been owned before. For collectors of Blackman and important works on paper, it is a sterling find, accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from the Charles Blackman Foundation and hand signed by the artist.
