Paste jewellery is made from a special type of flint glass that was invented in France in 1724 by Georges Frederic Stras and was used to imitate a number of gemstones. It was very popular in the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods.
The band is crafted in 18K gold and is stamped with French ‘tête d’aigle’ (eagle head) control mark for Paris. The outer shank is also stamped with a makers lozenge mark (CM with crescent moon).
