The DJI Zenmuse L3 is DJI's long-range, survey-grade aerial LiDAR payload, built exclusively for the DJI Matrice 400. A 1535 nm long-range LiDAR with up to 950 m detection on 10% reflectivity targets (2000 m on 80% targets), dual 100 MP 4/3 CMOS RGB mapping cameras, an integrated POS / IMU, and a 3-axis stabilized gimbal combine into a single 1.6 kg sensor that can cover up to 100 km² per day. The L3 supports up to 2 million points per second, four scan modes (Linear, Star-Shaped, Non-Repetitive), up to 16 returns per pulse, and a 3 cm RGB GSD at 300 m altitude. Paired with a D-RTK 3 Multifunctional Station and DJI Terra, it produces survey-grade point clouds for 1:500, 1:1000, and 1:2000 mapping projects in corridor, area, and powerline-inspection workflows.
DJI's flagship long-range aerial LiDAR for the Matrice 400. 1535 nm laser, 950 m range at 10% reflectivity, 2 MHz pulse rate, dual 100 MP RGB cameras, 3 cm vertical accuracy at 120 m, 100 km² coverage per day.

Please note: The DJI Matrice 400 aircraft, D-RTK 3 Multifunctional Station, CFexpress Type B memory card, card reader, RC Plus 2 Enhanced controller, and DJI Terra license are sold separately. Specific bundle contents vary by configuration; verify your combo's included accessories at checkout. The L3 is currently supported only on the Matrice 400 — it does not mount to the Matrice 350 RTK, Matrice 300 RTK, Matrice 30 Series, or Matrice 4 Series.
DJI's enterprise LiDAR lineup spans three generations:
If your fleet already runs the L2 and you've been hitting range or canopy limits, the L3 + M400 is the upgrade path. If you're starting fresh on a survey program, the L3 is the right choice for any work that benefits from longer range and dual-RGB DOM + DEM capture in a single flight.
The L3 produces its best accuracy when paired with a position-calibrated base station. DJI's recommended configuration uses the D-RTK 3 Multifunctional Station as the project base — the L3 stores RTK-fixed positions during flight and supports PPK post-processing in DJI Terra against D-RTK 3 .DAT logs, RINEX files, RTCM streams, or OEM observations from third-party reference networks. Keep the base within 15 km of the aircraft for the rated PPK accuracy. For programs already running D-RTK 2 from earlier M300 RTK / M350 RTK projects, the L3 supports the D-RTK 2 base station as well — the only difference is that the D-RTK 3 also serves as an NTRIP base, network rover, and survey-grade ground point collector in a single unit.
No. The Zenmuse L3 is supported only on the DJI Matrice 400 and requires the Zenmuse L3 single gimbal connector. The M350 RTK and M300 RTK don't have the airframe, power delivery, or SDK support needed for the L3's data rate and gimbal interface. For M300 / M350 fleets, the Zenmuse L2 remains the current LiDAR option.
Yes. The L3 is classified as Class 1 under IEC 60825-1:2014, which means it's considered safe under all reasonably foreseeable conditions of use, including direct intra-beam viewing for short durations. No special safety protocols are required for ground crews or bystanders. The 1535 nm wavelength is in the eye-safe band — the cornea absorbs the energy before it reaches the retina.
DJI rates the L3 at up to 10 km² per single flight at 300 m flight altitude on the Matrice 400, and up to 100 km² of daily coverage with battery rotation and mission planning. Actual coverage depends on overlap settings, terrain, weather, and how the operator structures the mission — corridor work covers more linear distance, area scans cover smaller footprints with denser data.
Linear scanning (80° H × 3° V) sweeps the laser side-to-side in a thin band — best for corridor mapping like highways, pipelines, and powerlines, and for survey-style ground capture where parallel passes need consistent point spacing. Star-Shaped (80° × 80°) produces a wider FOV with structured patterns useful for general-purpose mapping. Non-Repetitive (80° × 80°) produces a dense, uniformly distributed point cloud — best for capturing complex 3D structures like wires, vegetation, and detailed building geometry.
CFexpress Type B with at least 1500 MB/s sequential write speed. The data rate from dual 100 MP RGB capture plus 2 MHz LiDAR is high enough that slower cards will cause buffer underruns and dropped data. Use the CFexpress card DJI ships in the kit (if your bundle includes one) or buy a manufacturer-rated Type B card. SD cards and slower CFexpress Type A / older Type B cards are not sufficient.
DJI Terra is the primary processing tool — it ingests the L3's point cloud, IMU, GNSS, and RGB data and produces calibrated point clouds (LAS, LAZ, PLY, PCD, S3MB), orthomosaics, and 3D mesh models. DJI Modify is used downstream for mesh editing and cleanup. For workflows that need to hand off to third-party tools, DJI Terra exports standard formats compatible with Pix4D, Metashape, TerraSolid, CloudCompare, and Global Mapper LiDAR. A DJI Terra license is required and is sold separately.
The L3 has two 100 MP 4/3 CMOS cameras mounted with a 45° optical-axis angle between them, which gives a combined 107° horizontal field of view in a single capture. The mechanical shutters fire synchronously so the two captures merge into a single wide composite frame. The benefit is that one flight produces both the LiDAR-driven digital elevation model (DEM) and a high-resolution dual-camera digital orthophoto map (DOM) — at the rated 20% LiDAR side overlap, you don't need a separate orthomosaic flight to produce both deliverables.
For the rated accuracies (3 cm vertical / 4 cm horizontal at 120 m AGL), DJI's published test methodology uses Post-Processed Kinematic (PPK) in DJI Terra with the Optimize Point Cloud Accuracy option enabled, and a position-calibrated D-RTK 3 base station within 15 km of the aircraft. Real-time RTK fix produces survey-grade results for many workflows, but PPK against the base log is the recommended path for projects that need to meet the published RMSE specs.
The 1535 nm wavelength has two practical advantages over 905 nm: it's in the eye-safe IR band (Class 1 safety even at higher transmit powers), and it has better penetration through atmospheric haze, dust, and light fog. The L1 and L2 use 905 nm because the components are cheaper and the technology is mature; the L3's 1535 nm system trades higher cost for the longer range, better atmospheric performance, and eye-safety headroom that make it suitable for long-corridor and powerline inspection work.
The L3 ships with DJI's standard manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. DJI Care Enterprise Plus is available as an extended-coverage option for the L3 — verify enrollment and coverage details with your authorized dealer at purchase. Lithium battery, mechanical wear, and consumable accessory exclusions apply per DJI's standard terms.
