What is the difference between the Rain Forest and the Cloud Forest?
The main difference is the amount of rain. It doesn't rain as much in the cloud forest as it does in the rain forest. The species of flora and fauna found in each may also differ.

Is the water drinkable in Costa Rica?
Although the water is safe we do recommend drinking bottled water.
What is the currency in Costa Rica?
The Colon (CRC) although dollars are widely accepted.
Do I need an electrical adapter?
Outlets are the same as standard US outlets.
What should I bring when visiting the Rain Forest?
Inspect Repellant! A comfortable pair of hiking boots and a rain coat with a hood or poncho.

Costa Rica
Language
- The official language in Costa Rica is Spanish.
Time Zone
- Costa Rica is on the same time zone as our Salt Lake City mountain time.
Electricity
- The power plug sockets used in Costa Rica are Type A and Type B.
Climate
- Although Costa Rica is warm and dry, Costa Rica is incredibly rainy so be sure to bring clothing items that are accustomed for the warm weather and rain. A poncho or rain coat is recommended.
Health
- Medical insurance is recommended when traveling to Costa Rica but not required.
Tips
- Take note that although all tourism workers are paid a fixed salary, tips are used as their main income. It is considerate to tip your tourism workers although it is not required. Tourism workers should only be tipped if exceptional service is provided.
Currency
- The legal currency in Costa Rica is the Colon. 1 US dollar is equal to 540.932 CRC.
