Description

Rectogesic Ointment contains glyceryl trinitrate 0.2% w/w, which is used to relieve pain and discomfort associated with chronic anal fissures by relaxing the muscles around the anus, increasing blood flow, and promoting healing. It is typically used in adults for short-term treatment and should be applied as directed by a healthcare professional.

Ingredients

Active Ingredient:

Glyceryl Trinitrate 0.2% w/w (2 mg/g)

Inactive Ingredients Include:

Paraffin

Soft white paraffin

Lanolin

Other emollient and preservative components

Usage

Apply a small amount (approx. 1.5 cm strip of ointment) to the anal canal every 12 hours (twice daily), or as directed by your healthcare provider.

Application should be with a gloved finger to reduce the risk of absorbing the medication through the skin.

Treatment duration is usually up to 8 weeks unless otherwise advised.

Wash hands thoroughly after application.

Warnings

For rectal use only.

Not recommended for use in children under 18 years.

May cause headaches, especially at the beginning of treatment – this is common and generally lessens with continued use.

Do not use if you are taking medications for erectile dysfunction or other nitrate-based medicines.

Avoid using if you have low blood pressure or heart problems, unless advised by a doctor.

Dizziness or light-headedness may occur – avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.

If symptoms persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
