This educational resource brings Meriam Mir, the language of the Meriam people, the easternmost Torres Strait Islanders, into the classroom through beautifully illustrated, English-language stories. This book is one of a set featuring more than 30 Meriam Mir words and 10 everyday Meriam Mir phrases. The collection introduces students to important cultural themes including nature, sea animals and family life.

Created by Ilan Style, a 100% woman-owned and operated company founded by Prof. Kerry Arabena, a Torres Strait Islander and Celtic woman, academic, and philanthropist, this series is brought to life through vibrant artwork by Irene Lehmann, a proud Torres Strait Islander artist.

Authentic pronunciation support is provided by linguist Nick Piper, with video demonstrations by Elder Adimabo Noah, who generously shares his cultural knowledge and language at the heart of this story. Meriam and Quandamooka nurse and songstress Rochelle Pitt enriches the learning experience by turning the stories into songs, offering children and families another meaningful way to connect with culture.
