Yet the majority of artisans are women who lack access to export markets, business skills, and the financial tools needed to run successful, global enterprises. We are dedicated to changing that by investing 100% of our profits into education programs for the women who handcraft our products and youth in their communities. That's Impact. About Raffia: A straw-like material found inside of a species of palm that grows abundantly across sub-Saharan Africa. Raffia fiber is stripped from the palm leaf, dried in the sun, dyed (if desired), and woven. Because Raffia is soft, durable, and flexible it can be used in a variety of techniques from coil weaving to crochet. Care: Our woven pieces are sturdy and made to last. They’re also meant to be used, and because life happens, sometimes they get a little out of shape. You can reshape your basket or bag by spraying creased areas with water and pressing into your desired shape. The material should feel damp but not saturated. Add water slowly to get a feel for what your piece needs and avoid color bleeding. Let dry, avoiding direct sunlight, or placing on fabrics. Repeat as necessary. If you notice stray fibers just give them a trim, this is totally normal! **Due to the handmade quality, some size and color variation may occur.
