Heatcote Rosso 2023 13.4%
"Details: Kennedy Vineyard Shiraz, Willoughby Bridge Grenache, Touriga Nacional and Sangiovese. Colbinabbin subregion, Heathcote
The story: Northern Heathcote is a frontier in Australian viticulture. Lead by the Chalmers family, the Shelmerdines, Kennedys and even influenced by Central Heathcote producers such as the Marsons. This region is being reimagined.
That is not to say that there isn’t still a lot of fantastic Shiraz here. The Cambrian greenstone is one of the best soils for Shiraz production in Australia. I love the chocolate, meats, and grilled plum flesh that this soil type creates. However, it also produces fantastic Sangiovese and the alluvial soil types are not well suited to Shiraz.
This wine is built on a backbone of savoury and dark chocolate greenstone Shiraz and juicy alluvial Grenache. Then a slatey and blue fruited Touriga is added with a herbaceous accent from Sangiovese.
The essence: This wine was made to be my favourite style of infinitely drinkable medium bodied red. It’s got savoury meats and mocha with layers of red berries and vanilla. If you want to look for it there is complexity, but if you’re having a wine with your mates or girlfriends, then just let it be a gregarious celebration of Northern Heathcote." Little Brunswick
