WW2 British Glider Pilot Wings were distinctive insignia worn by members of the Glider Pilot Regiment during the Second World War. These pilots played a crucial role in airborne operations, piloting gliders that delivered troops, equipment, and supplies directly into combat zones.

Design of the Glider Pilot Wings

The wings were worn on the left breast above the pocket of the battledress or service dress.

The wings symbolized the pilot’s specialized training in flying unpowered gliders, which required skill and precision since these aircraft had no engines and relied entirely on tow planes and controlled descent for landing.

Glider pilots were often also trained as infantry soldiers, capable of fighting alongside the troops they transported once they had landed.
