With its stunning color, the artist can't help but gift the name 'Honu'. Honu means turtle and is highly revered to Hawaiians.  The Honu is a symbol of wisdom and good luck. The Green Sea Turtle is the only indigenous reptile in Hawaii. For natives, the Honu is a form of a guardian spirit, or amakua.  

Historically in Hawaii, Peridot was known as "The Tears of Pele", the goddess of fire, who controls the flow of lava. Being a rare gem-quality stone that is only found in shades of one color, a rich green tone, is formed deep inside the Earth's mantle and brought to the surface by volcanos. 

In ancient times, the Egyptians considered Peridot "The gem of the sun", which makes it being the birthstone of August, the last stretch of summer, before fall starts to show itself, so appropriate.
