The CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme, commonly known as SSSTS, is designed for construction workers who are moving into, or already working in, a supervisory role. This two-day course helps site supervisors understand their legal responsibilities and the practical steps required to manage health, safety and welfare on construction sites.
The SSSTS course provides essential knowledge for supervisors, foremen, gangers, team leaders and first-line managers who are responsible for overseeing work activities, communicating instructions and helping maintain safe standards on site.
This course is delivered in a classroom in Wandsworth, London, SW18 4EW.
This course is suitable for individuals who have, or are about to take on, supervisory responsibilities within the construction industry. It is particularly relevant for site supervisors, team leaders, foremen, gangers and first-line managers who need to understand how to supervise work safely and effectively.
During the course, delegates will learn how health and safety law applies to construction site supervision and how supervisors contribute to managing risk, monitoring site activity and supporting safe working practices.
By the end of the SSSTS course, delegates should have a clearer understanding of how to supervise construction work safely, communicate site requirements and support compliance with health and safety legislation.
Delegates should either hold a supervisory position or be preparing to move into a supervisory role. A good standard of written and spoken English is required, as delegates will need to take part in course activities and complete the final assessment.
Assessment takes place throughout the course through tutor observation, group exercises and individual participation. Delegates are also required to complete a multiple-choice examination at the end of the course.
Successful delegates will receive the CITB Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme certificate. The SSSTS certificate is valid for five years. To remain certified, delegates must complete the appropriate SSSTS Refresher training before their certificate expires.
The SSSTS course is delivered over two days. Training may be completed as two consecutive days or, where available, one day per week across two weeks.
The SSSTS qualification is widely recognised across the construction industry and is an important course for anyone responsible for supervising teams on site. It helps supervisors build confidence, understand their legal duties and apply practical health and safety controls in day-to-day site operations.
