An early example of a French provincial devotional Jeanette cross, dating to the second half of the 18th century. These distinctive crosses were traditionally produced in regions such as Provence, Arles, and the Southern Alps, though the vast majority surviving today are later 19th-century examples set with rose cut diamonds. This piece is notably earlier, distinguished by its use of table cut diamonds; a feature rarely encountered.

The cross is set throughout with finely proportioned table cut diamonds, mounted in silver collets backed with reflective silver foil. This traditional technique produces a uniquely soft yet lively luminosity, characteristic of early diamond jewellery. The stones are arranged in the classic Jeanette cross formation, with gently rounded terminals and a strong, balanced silhouette that remains strikingly wearable.

The construction follows the established 18th-century method of silver on gold; the diamond settings are executed in silver to enhance brilliance, while the reverse, frame, suspension loop, and bail are formed in rich 18K gold. The pendant bears French control marks consistent with this construction, including an eagle mark for 18K gold and a swan mark indicating French 800 silver.

Despite its age, the pendant is of a very wearable size and presence, retaining the quiet authority and devotional intimacy that define these provincial crosses. It remains both a deeply evocative object of faith and a highly collectable example of early French diamond jewellery.

The pendant measures approximately 3.5 cm by 2.5 cm and weighs 4.18 grams. In very good antique condition overall.
