These cups are fired in a wood kiln by the artist Zhang Yuncheng. This cup is half-handmade. The cup is shaped by hand but with the aid of a mould. It is finished by hand before being fired.

These wood fired cups have a brilliant shine with rich warm colours. The colour comes from the natural wood ash glaze that forms on the surface of the clay while it is being fired in the wood kiln. This wood ash glaze is known as 金银釉 Gold Silver Glaze. Each cup will have slightly different patterns and colours created by the wood ash in the kiln. No two are identical.
