Heritage & inspiration

Sultanabad-Mahal weaving turned commercial in 1875 when Ziegler & Co. set up workshops in Arak, central Iran, weaving directly for Western dealers. The Ziegler Sultanabad burgundy-ground became a Victorian and Edwardian standard — the rug you'd see in a substantial London or East Coast drawing room. Open-field medallion, generous spacing, simpler borders than court-formal Kashan or Tabriz. The burgundy ground reads warmer and less ceremonial than late-Qajar court burgundy.

Distinct from the cohort's late-Qajar court register (used as our Burgundy anchor's editorial frame). Where Qajar reads library, study, low-light formal, Sultanabad export-quality reads drawing-room, daylight-tolerant, generously-proportioned.

Spot-clean with mild detergent; low-suction vacuum; professional clean every 18–24 months. Not a machine-washable rug.
