Two more drawings by Edwin Kosarek today, of which I've had a good handful, and just went back to my source and grabbed two more. What I know is that he was from New Jersey (b. 1929) but spent a good part of the 1950s in Mexico, after which he briefly attended Cooper Union. He was gay, and estranged from his family, and, it seems increasingly mentally ill, with not much record of him after the 1950s.

I think his drawings are wonderful, wide ranging but consistently strong, and interesting, and even the most casual of them feeling very resolved. Here I think the eyes of one face peeking out just above the head of the other at left is so good, with that higher pair of eyes evincing those of an owl, and feeling as if they might belong to the face of the figure at right, with matching kinky hair, as if Kosarek wanted to capture both the face and back of the head at once. Feels quite like a portrait of a specific relationship, too. Lots of energy to it, and to my eye really compelling.

8 15/16 x 12, ink on watercolor type paper. Very good condition, with rough left edge from where it was clearly pulled out of a sketchbook. Signed, dated 1950, and titled on reverse. Erongarícuaro, which means "Place of waiting" in the Purepecha language, is a town in the Mexican state of Michoacán.
