A very fine and elegant pair mahogany hall chairs of the Regency period.
England or Ireland, circa 1820's.
Why we like them
Particularly successful design, with finely carved cartouche backs, essentially a more restrained version of the iconic 'Edwards Pattern' hall chairs by Gillows. We particularly like the superbly drawn, boldly splayed back legs.
The overall form of these chairs relates to those made in 1811 for the Reverend H. Holland Edwards of Pennant, Conway, North Wales, illustrated S. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, Vol. 1, London, 2008, p. 203, pl. 177.
Superb quality, wonderfully stylish hall chairs, made of fine solid mahogany, superbly decorative. These super smart chairs will be a very chic addition to a classic, eclectic or modern interior.
