AUSTRALIAN SCIENTIFIC pH 4.0 Calibration Solution 500ml is an acidic buffer used for calibrating pH meters to ensure precise measurement of acidic solutions such as hydroponic nutrient mixes.
AUSTRALIAN SCIENTIFIC calibration fluids are the official buffers used with APERA INSTRUMENTS water control tools, including the PH60 and PC60 pocket pH testers.
These buffers are standardised at 25°C, colour coded for easy recognition, and electrometrically checked against standard primary buffer solutions in accordance with NIST using traceable reagents.
Regular calibration helps ensure your pH meter provides reliable readings when testing hydroponic nutrient solutions.
🧪 pH 4.0 acidic calibration buffer
📦 500ml bottle
📏 Designed for low-range (acidic) pH calibration
🔬 Suitable for 2-point or 3-point pH meter calibration
🌡️ Standardised at 25°C
🎨 Colour coded for easy identification
✔️ Compatible with APERA INSTRUMENTS PH60 and PC60 pocket testers
📜 NIST traceable reagents
The pH 4.0 buffer is used for acidic calibration, ensuring that pH meters measure low-range solutions accurately.
For hydroponic growers, using pH 7.0 followed by pH 4.0 calibration helps ensure reliable readings when monitoring nutrient reservoirs and plant feed solutions.
Consistent calibration ensures the readings of hydroponic nutrient solutions remain trustworthy.
Prepare the Electrode
Rinse the probe with distilled or deionised water and gently blot dry using a lint-free tissue. Do not rub the glass bulb.
Prepare the Buffer
Pour a small amount of AUSTRALIAN SCIENTIFIC pH 4.0 Calibration Solution into a clean container. Never insert the probe directly into the bottle.
Immerse the Probe
Place the electrode into the solution and gently stir to remove any air bubbles.
Allow Reading to Stabilise
Wait for the reading to stabilise before confirming calibration.
Adjust the Meter
Set the meter to pH 4.0 (or 4.01 depending on the meter specification).
Rinse the Probe
Remove the probe and rinse thoroughly with distilled water.
Discard Used Solution
Always discard the used buffer and never return it to the bottle.
🌡️ Temperature: Calibration solutions are temperature dependent. For best accuracy use at 25°C.
📏 Calibration order: For best results perform two-point calibration (e.g., pH 7 then pH 4).
🧴 Storage: Keep the bottle tightly sealed and store in a cool, dark place.
🚫 Avoid contamination: Never reuse calibration solution or return used liquid to the bottle.
