It strikes me that framed punch paper embroideries were the sort of precursor to printed plaques one sees now in home stores declaring things like "it's Good to Be Home" or "God Bless this Mess."  And indeed the antique punch paper embroidery one most commonly sees declares "God Bless Our Home." I'd not seen this "Ninety and Nine" before, though, and of course am a sucker for a lost little lamb! The Ninety and Nine refers to the "Parable of the Lost Sheep" told by Jesus in the New Testamant (Matthew 18:10-14 and Luke 15:1-7), describing a shepherd who leaves his 99 sheep to find the one that is lost--which I'll take as a simple assertion of the value of each and every one! And I like the portrayal of our little brown lamb here--wandering through what seems one part desert, one part oasis, palm tree rising to the left. 

12" x 10", original frame and glass, as found. Embroidery in good condition, with some wear to the surface of the frame, mostly lower right corner--frame and glass original to it I believe. With wood back split into two parts. Wired for hanging.
