A striking 19th century French Louis Philippe style bleached commode handcrafted of walnut with a bookmatched burled walnut front by talented artisans in Lyon, circa 1870s. Having a beautiful black marble top that rests above a doucine apron drawer with three drawers below, each having gilt-brass lion's head ring pulls and decorative gilt-brass escutcheons. Resting on shaped pistolet feet. ​Although the elaborate and carved elements of past French styles were abandoned during the Louis Philippe period, the craftsmanship was still superb. It just avoided the lavish excesses of previous styles. The strong, bold lines and subtle curves of Louis Philippe pieces mix easily with other styles making them an easy fit in an existing home. The scale of the drawers ensures an ample amount of storage wherever this chest is placed.
