The Arita Ware Collection is a selection of porcelain tableware created for Marcel, the restaurant developed by Roman and Williams in partnership with Sotheby’s, located within the historic Breuer Building. Marking a new introduction of porcelain to Roman and Williams Guild, the collection reflects a commitment to material integrity, proportion, and enduring form.
Originating in the 17th century as Japan’s first porcelain tradition, Arita ware is distinguished by its luminous white body and refined overglaze decoration. Roman and Williams Guild collaborated with a collective of heritage kilns to produce archival patterns alongside custom silver-glazed plates and bowls developed specifically for Marcel. Pattern, reflectivity, and surface variation introduce rhythm across the table, allowing each element to contribute to a composed and balanced arrangement.
Presented alongside RW Guild Original Designs, including cast metal Hyssop candleholders and Bone flatware forged in Tsubame, the Arita Ware Collection contributes to a unified table defined by clarity of form and material honesty, where dinnerware, glassware, flatware, and table objects exist in dialogue.
