This full-sleeve khadi shirt does considerably more than it shows. Made from pure cotton khadi, handspun and handwoven in Karnataka, the space-dyed Athenian blue. The fabric is pre-washed and destarched, soft and ready from the first wear. The relaxed fit sits generously through the body without losing shape, and the shirt moves easily through long days and longer evenings. For a shirt built with this kind of structural thought on the inside, the outside wears with a quietness that tends to hold attention longer.

 

Details: Two-piece collar. Full sleeves with a cuff. Shaped hem with side gussets. Two-layered front patch pocket with a hidden inner shelf. Back yoke with a box pleat. Windowpane kora and blue fabric are used inside the yoke, inner pocket layer, and hem gussets, completely concealed from the outside. No thick fusing or buckram in the collar or placket. Non-corrosive metal buttons throughout. Individually cut and sewn in our Bengaluru studio.

 

Intent: In Kannada, a Kammaara is a blacksmith. His work is built from the inside out. The layers he hammers together in the forge, the way he distributes metal at the joints that will take the most force, these decisions happen before the surface is finished, before anyone will ever see them.

 

The hidden windowpane kora lining inside the yoke, the inner pocket shelf, and the hem gussets of this shirt follow that same logic. They are there not to be discovered, but because leaving them out would mean the shirt was only half finished. The two-layered pocket in particular carries the blacksmith's instinct directly: where the cloth meets the most daily use, where hands reach in and pull, there is a second layer of support, quiet and unannounced. A Kammaara does not reinforce a tool so that people will notice. This shirt was made with the same standard.
