To commemorate the 125th anniversary of Bruckner's death, the legendary Romanian conductor Serge Celibidacke (1912-1996) conducted the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 1992 in Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 on SACD hybrid disc for the first time in 38 years. In 1992, Celibidacke took the podium of the Berlin Philharmonic for the first time in 38 years, and gave an overwhelmingly masterful performance of Bruckner's Seventh Symphony, his most popular repertoire, in a special two-day concert with the Berlin Philharmonic held at Berlin's Schauspielhaus on March 31 and April 1. This historic performance was made possible by the direct order of Weizsaecker, who was President of Germany at the time, and amidst the extraordinary tension in the hall, it was the only recorded performance of Celibidacke conducting the Berlin Philharmonic, who had rarely made recordings. This time, the original LD master from the Sony Classical collection has been DSD mastered and SACD hybridized by Martin Kistner of b-sharp in Berlin.
