Description:
Hans Werner Henze has arranged the famous Wesendonck Lieder into an even more appealing work, with ten wind instruments, harp, and small strings creating a rich sound not possible with piano accompaniment. The Italian poet Arrigo Boito has translated the songs into Italian, creating a new world. And Salvatore Sciarrino's "Languire a Palermo" is based on a melody sketched by Wagner during his visit to Palermo in 1882.
