Tartini, Giuseppe (1692-1770)

Description:

An ambitious project featuring works by Tartini, a rare violin virtuoso, played on viola da gamba. The first piece, Concerto in D major, was transcribed by Giulio Meneghini, a pupil of Tartini, and the solo instrument is designated "viola" in the score. The instrument is designated as "viola. It is assumed that "viola" referred to a small cello, but the producer and performer of this recording decided to play it on the gamba, taking advantage of the ambiguity of the instrument's designation at the time. The two sonatas are from the "Radenburg Collection," discovered in 2015, in which the violin sonata is arranged for the gamba. The Devil's Sonata, synonymous with Tartini, was arranged by contemporary composer Gianluca Bersanetti in the form of a Baroque ensemble concerto. The gamba plays a variety of roles, not only as a soloist but also as an accompanist. This is a piece that offers a different flavor to the original piece, with the charm of the unique sound of the gamba. Performed by the ensemble "Opera Prima" led by gamba player Cristiano Contadin.Highly acclaimed for his Telemann and Graun works. Naxos Japan
