We've seen quite a few Neon SRT-4's that have had tone wheel failures. What typically happens is the bolts will shear off, then the tone wheel explodes and you'll have damage plus debris everywhere inside the engine. You'll then have to remove the crankshaft from the engine to be able to install a new tone wheel.

So what we have done is to create custom ARP tone wheel bolts that are 1) Way stronger 2) larger in size for greater shear strength (OEM is a 6mm bolt, this is a 7mm bolt). These are heat treated bolts made in the USA, and are made from forged ARP 2000 material. These are made out of the same material used in their head bolts and rod bolts.

ARP required a very large number of these to be made, at a large expense to us, but we are committed to the Neon SRT-4 market, and so we decided to make this happen.

In order to install these you'll need to use a 6mm bit, and then use a M7 tap. You'll drill out the four holes in the crankshaft, then tap it so you can use the larger MPx/ARP bolts.

This will be a smart thing to do while you have your engine apart as a preventative measure to protect your investment. Combining these bolts with a billet tone wheel will eliminate this weak link.
