Long John Baldry
Description:
Long John Baldry's 1964-68 live sound collection is excerpted and released on LP! What made Long John Baldry stand out among British R&B singers of the mid-1960s was the breadth and depth of his knowledge of the blues. He had been roaming the folk, jazz, and skiffle scene in Soho since 1955, but taught himself to play his first Redbury number on guitar at age 14. After working with such early British R&B greats as Alexis Korner, Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, Davey Graham, and Cyril Davis, he became a frontman himself. In addition to the first group led by Baldry, the Steam Packet soundtrack he formed with Rod Stewart, Julie Driscoll, and organist Brian Auger, and others...16 songs are excerpted from Jazz & Soul Review broadcast material and recordings made for BBC Radio. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the live performer side of the band....
