Franco & Ok Jazz
Description:
The African artist who stands out from the rest in terms of presence and number of releases is undoubtedly Franco (1938-89), a musician from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In 1956, when he was only 17 years old, he took up the electric guitar, which was the latest instrument at the time, and started his own orchestra to create new music, creating the prototype of Congolese popular music, "rumba congolaise," which is mellow yet sparkling, and for the next 30 years he was active at the forefront. This reissued compilation of 30 tracks of Franco's valuable recordings from 1957 to 1962, the period when the music was at its height of its first flowering. The sparkling sound of this album is the true essence of Franco's music, which is a mixture of the unique freshness and tension that only newly born music can have.
