Tea With Me & Myself is an acrylic painting part of the Joy glass painting diptych. Created across three layers of glass panels, intentionally broken and carefully reassembled. Through this layered construction, a simple ritual, a solitary cup of tea, is transformed into an act of self-devotion. The image holds a quiet sanctuary, honoring the choice to turn inward and claim joy, even on days that feel heavy.

The fractured glass introduces depth and dimension, allowing the painted layers to hover, overlap, and subtly shift with the viewer’s perspective. These breaks mirror the social, cultural, emotional, and bodily pressures we carry. Rather than concealing these forces, Stella embraces fracture as structure, refracting tension into a composition that feels resilient, intentional, and whole.

Each crack is deliberate. Each layer reinforces the idea that joy is not something passively received, but something actively chosen, again and again.

Created as one half of the Joy Diptych, alongside Joy – Latte With Me & Myself, this piece reflects parallel rituals of self-devotion. Together, the works transform ordinary gestures into anchors of care, centering the body through presence and restraint.

This work was selected for the 2025 Newark Arts Festival and premiered at the Paul Robeson Galleries in Newark Express, located at the historic Hahnes building in Newark NJ, marking a pivotal milestone in Stella Chang’s evolving exploration of intimacy, agency, and emotional presence through glass.
