Ruiz-Pipo, Antonio (1934-1997)
Description:
Composer Luis-Pipo (Luis Pipó) was born in Spain. He studied piano and composition in Paris and wrote many works while working as an excellent pianist. Among them, "Songs and Dances No. 1," a guitar piece written for his close friend Narciso Yepes, is known to have made his name in a big way. This album, a follow-up to the first collection (8.573971), includes "Songs and Dances" including the aforementioned No. 1, "Autumn Pieces" dedicated to the memory of his friend, two preludes written for Narciso Yepes, and seven preludes dedicated to Yasumasa Obara, a leading Japanese guitarist of the Showa period. Weigel, who performs, is a guitarist who met Pipo in 1992 and collaborated with him in revising his works; they had a strong relationship of trust, as evidenced by the dedication of a guitar concerto by Pipo in 1995, but the composer's sudden death in 1997 interrupted many projects, which is regrettable. In this recording, Weigel pays a heartfelt tribute to Pipo. Naxos Japan
