Hortense Cartier-Bresson
Description:
Hortense Cartier-Bresson, the link between Bach and the New Viennese School, is a French-based woman musician whose cousin is the acclaimed photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson. She has been teaching at the Conservatoire de Paris for many years and is also actively engaged in performing. In this concert, she will perform three of Bach's Toccata with early piano works by Schoenberg, Berg, Webern, and other great composers of the New Viennese Music School, a rather unusual combination. However, the music of the New Viennese Music School is closer to the world of Bach than to that of the Romantic and Classical Schools, as evidenced by the development of motifs, linear writing style, and minimal emotionalism. Cartier-Bresson's performances of Schöberg and Webern are not inorganic, but full of subtle nuances. King International
