Description:
Domenico Scarlatti was a Neapolitan musician, opera composer, outstanding harpsichordist, and organist. His sonatas for keyboard were written as exercises for Maria Barbara, Princess of Portugal (later Queen of Spain), to whom he gave musical instruction. Most of the sonatas were written in a single movement, and many of them were quite experimental for their time, incorporating a wide variety of techniques to improve technique. Each of the 16 sonatas on this album has its own unique characteristics. For example, the sonata on track 9 uses jig rhythms, and the sonata on track 14 is full of gorgeous trills, all of which are full of charm. The vivid touch of the virtuoso Monteiro is impressive.
