Becca Stevens & The Secret Trio,Becca Stevens
Description:
The latest album, inspired by the music of the Middle East, is the result of Becca's continued evolution with her original album "Wonderbloom" and the duo standards collection "Palette on Your Floor" with Eran Mehler (p.). After being greatly impressed by the performance of the New York Gypsy All Stars during a joint performance at the 2019 GroundUp Music Fes, Becca began work on the album under the production of Michael League. The members of The Secret Trio are Armenian Alla Dinkjian (oud), who has participated in and contributed to an album by Sezen Axe, the queen of Turkish pop, Macedonian Ismail Romanovski (clarinet), who is the leader of New York Gypsy All Stars, and Armenian drummer and composer, Michael League. clarinet), and fellow group member Tamar Pinarbasi (khanoun), a Turk. All are top musicians who have performed all over the world, incorporating classical, jazz, pop, and other styles of music based on traditional music.Becca's original folky sound, based on jazz textures, naturally blends with Arabic-Turkish music to create a contemporary sound. Replacing the clarinet with a Na'i would result in a traditional composition of Arabic classical music, but the clarinet's Balkan jazz tone is used to update it. Becca plays vocals/guitar/ukulele/charango, and Michael League plays Moog bass and back-up vocals. Most of the songs are co-written by these two musicians, but there are also covers of folk~blues SSW Paul Curreri (M4) and Rilke's poem (M7). The vocal expression is overwhelming and delicate, and the singing on the slower songs is as glamorous as a Turkish singer. First released in Japan.
