This is a 1974 album by trombonist Phil Ranelin, one of the founders of the legendary TRIBE label with Wendell Harrison, and an influential figure in the Detroit jazz scene. This is a spiritual jazz masterpiece full of tense improvisation, soulful and groovy jazz, and the atmosphere and strong blackness of the early 70's. It has been reissued with the latest remastering. Trombonist Phil Ranelin, who founded the legendary jazz label "TRIBE" with Wendell Harrison and was an important figure in the Detroit jazz scene in the early 1970s, recorded his first solo album as a leader, "The Time Is Now!It opens with the tension-filled improvisation "The Time Is Now For Change" (M1) and builds up even more heat with the freaky and abstract "Time Is Running Out" (M2), while the modal-sounding soul-jazz "Of Times The album also offers a superb groove with "Gone By" (M3), a soul-jazz song with a modal sound, and "Black Destiny" (M4), a jazz funk song that radiates a strong blackness. The melancholy trombone melody of "13th And Senate" (M5) and "He, The One We All Knew, Pt. 1" (M6), the last number on the original release, make this a spiritual jazz masterpiece worthy of its name! The LP is the latest reissue in a 2-LP special edition with 9 tracks in total, including additional outtakes and alternate versions!
