Description:
An Arabian Night by Nemanja, a fairy tale of enchantment played by a violin goddess. The Violin Concerto by Khachaturian, an Armenian from the former Soviet Union (now Georgia), was composed in 1940 with the advice of Oistrakh, who was also the first performer of the work, during the period when he was working to sublimate Armenian folk music artistically. It is a masterpiece in which folklorism and virtuosity are perfectly matched. Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade," based on "One Thousand and One Nights" set in Sasanian Persia, was made into a symphonic suite with a solo violin, and the new arrangement extracts its charm in a Nemanja-like manner. The album also features a Khachaturian trio with Andreas Ottensamer, principal clarinetist of the Berlin Philharmonic and a very active soloist and chamber musician. The album title "Baika" means "fairy tale" in Serbian. Universal Music/IMS
