SDA48, a viola performance group, was founded in 2013 with the concept of "raising awareness of the viola as an instrument and creating music that both listeners and players can truly enjoy" and has received a lot of media exposure, including a special feature on the viola on NHK's "La La La La♪ Classic" and a live performance on NHK-FM's "Today is a full day of viola". After a successful crowdfunding campaign for the production of this album, SDA48 is now ready to release its second album after the Corona Disaster. SDA48 is a viola-only ensemble with 12 selected members and a total of 48 strings.In addition to the existing original pieces written for viola, York Bowen's "Fantasy for Four Violas" and Gordon Jacob's "Suite for Eight Violas", this album features Rossini's "William Tell" overture, Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" The program also includes Rossini's "William Tell" Overture, Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" from "The Nutcracker," Rossini's "Little Overture," "March," "Trepak," "Waltz of the Flowers," Khachaturian's "Sword Dance" and Mozart's "Ave Verum Corpus," all arranged by SDA48 member Kaoru Iida. Members include Ryo Oshima, principal of the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, Daisuke Kato, vice-chairman of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and other principal players of orchestras in Japan and abroad, as well as young musicians who belong to orchestras. The concept of the ensemble is "to convey the charm of the viola instrument to a wider audience. In 2016, the ensemble appeared on NHK's "La-la-la♪ Classics" program featuring the viola, which is usually not so conspicuous, and unleashed the charm of the viola.In February 2020, Sachiko Suda appeared as a talk guest on NHK-FM's "Today is a full day of viola" and SDA48 performed live for the last 45 minutes of the program.
