Lonnie Smith
Description:
This is Dr. Lonnie Smith's second Blue Note album from 1969, following his popular "Synth" disc. With the addition of Lee Morgan, Julian Pryster, and Benny Maupin, this is a jazz-inspired album. It includes Don Covay's "See Saw," which Aretha Franklin also covered, and the Beatles' "Ellinor Rigby. The organ virtuoso performed with a dynamic band featuring Lee Morgan on trumpet, Julian Priest on trombone, Benny Maupin on tenor saxophone, Melvin Sparks on guitar, and funky drummer Leo Morris (aka Idris Muhammad). The soulful original compositions are also a highlight of the album. Personnel〉Dr. Lonnie Smith (org) Lee Morgan (tp) Julian Priester (tb) Bennie Maupin (ts) Melvin Sparks (g) Leo Morris (ds)
